Motor Vehicle Law; Title 39:4-204 through 207 states:
The Chief of Police of each municipality in this state shall issue to any person who has temporarily lost the use of one or more limbs or is temporarily disabled as to be unable to ambulate without the aid of an assisting device or whose mobility is other temporarily limited as certified by a physician, podiatrist or chiropractor….a temporary placard may, however, be renewed one time at the discretion of the issuing authority for a period of no more than 6 months’ duration. The placard shall be displayed on the motor vehicle used by the temporarily handicapped person. A vehicle which has displayed a placard is allowed to park overtime or in a designated handicapped parking space.

Temporary placards are only issued to those who have a temporary disability and are issued for 6 months. If necessary, placards may be renewed for an additional 6 months.
Placards may be used with any vehicle in which the handicapped person is a passenger, regardless of whether that person owns the vehicle.
How to Obtain a Temporary Handicap Placard
- Complete and print New Jersey Temporary Placard Application
*If you are unable to download or complete the application online, the form may be picked up at the West Wildwood Police Department.
- Ensure your doctor has signed the application in the doctor certification section of the form
- Return the completed application to the West Wildwood Police Department with a check or money order made out to “NJ Motor Vehicle Commission” in the amount of $4.00. CASH WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED
